I enjoyed today’s presentations, each one varied. (I’m not saying some of them sucked, but some they were different) Some were really funny, and some were just nice, like the enthusiasm, and the energy… mine was pretty good I guess. I was pretty satisfied with what I’ve got. I mean I had a lot of information, and the speech I wrote was… not that - never mind, but, okay, my oral speech was a little dull. I don’t have stage fright, but it feels weird to read something out loud inside a classroom. Really, I’d rather do it in front of a full audience inside a 300-seat theatre (which I have done before and is not as bad as the classroom). Maybe if I did this over again, I might try to packed more things into it, rehearsed the thing more, and maybe dress up too!

Who am I? You want to know? Every person and has a story of their life. I will tell you mine. Let me introduce myself, I am Thoth also Tehuty, Djuhuty, and Djehuti, plus Dhouti, Zehuti, Tahuti, and ooh, of course, Zhouti, and Techa, and Thout, and many others, but just Thoth is fine. A great Egyptian god of all knowledge and scribes I am; science, intelligence, wisdom, inventor of writing, creator of magic, messenger of gods, I have created a path for your future, by giving what I claim to be important knowledge. And even I had to come to be. I will tell you everything.

Now, you all remember Ra. Him, well, I flew out of the waters with him, although some consider me being created by that - uh, oh… (Suddenly) ignorant idiot… He cursed many gods, but I was the only one that has overcome it… (Like talking to himself) oh, that Ra, who thinks he’s all that, he’ll pay… oh… (Murmur) He thinks I’m his son!!! And still to some people… Ahem! Anyways, I came out of the waters… but at that time, I was only a moon god, associated with the moon. Eventually, over time… I changed into what is a fabulous and most wonderful god of knowledge. And I now have a called Ma’at.

Many consider me to be depicted as a man with an ibis head, holding a stylus and a writing palette, the most wonderful objects ever to have been created by… moi! Some people, however, see me as a full ibis, or a baboon. My main cult center is in a place called Hermopolis… where that was my main “center”.

I also played a roll in afterlife. I worked as a clerk, recording the judgments of all the people. My magic powers could be used to heal many things, if necessary. I was also a minister for Osirian myths.

So for all you followers of moi, I thank you, you are what you learn. Continue doing it, I wish you all the best on your journey. I will help you… who am I? Thoth…

What is the issue?

The “issue” is that on April 22nd, all over the world, people took part in Earth Day. Earth Day is a special day where people around the globe all take part in cleaning up all the streets, and the beaches, and we all take care of the environment. People let the cars take a rest, and projects to protect the environment are held. One example is in New York; a plan is to plant up to a million trees in the big city, so that the trees could suck up carbon dioxide, and the city mayor hopes the city could cool down. Wal-Mart employees clean up and do community service… scientists are also working on reusing everything so that everything we throw out can be made into new things. This is part of a plan called zero waste. Another interesting project is to see if olive oil or vegetable oil can power our cars. This should stop pollution and global warming.

Who is involved?

The entire world is involved because we are the ones who could help stop these things from happening, like global warming, and reusing stuff, recycle stuff… etc. etc. etc. We are the ones that can help. If everyone did something small, then it would obviously make into something big… which would then help the world.

Who is affected and how?

We all are. We are affected because of course the effects of if and if we don’t do anything about stuff that’s going on will affect out lives. Stuff like zero waste, and vegetable oil powered cars will have great effects on the Earth… which is what we live in, which will affect us.

What would I do if I were directly involved?

All right, there I not a “directly involved” thing in here. Although I might want to find a way to make way for new Earthly projects. If that’s not possible (it might be), I will just do what everyone should be doing, like recycling that soda can, or turning off the TV when no one’s watching it… if everyone did something little (and there are lots of everyones) it will equal something big. So go ahead. Spread the word, make a difference.

Response to Hanna’s blog:

What new information has emerged?

The dutch company are finally showing their first sorries, and they have been paying the Ivory Coast government some US$198 million to clean up the toxic waste, however, they are showing no liability for the action, and the government will not be turning against them. Although the money had been put in for cleaning it up, the question is where they will dispose the dirty water.

What did you find interesting about this topic?

It’s hard to believe the govenrment isn’t doing much. I think they should at least have court, because te dutch company can’t just dump toxic waste in somebody else’s territory when the didn’t want it in their own country. They are making people die and suffer just so they can save money on properly disposing it. If they did, and they should have been capable of doing it, none of this chaos would have happened. I guess none of them knew it would become this serious that so many people are dying so that would be out of all the troubles. Well, it looks like the dutch company has even more troubles to handle.

What did you like about the initial posting

She did quite a big current event, and the event she chose was very good. She also had some good info and pictures and maps, you can get the entire thing/idea. That’s what I liked about this blog posting.

Although it was long time ago when the price of poultry went down, and lots of people got sick because of H5N1 bird flu, another case of the same disease has popped into our minds. In Turkey, some 160,000 poultry animals were gotten rid of after outbreaks of the H5N1 bird flu came about. In some places in the world, poultry prices are being slashed 50%. The Food Standards Agency said that it may enter the food chain, and the whole process might happen all over again.

Who is involved?

The Food Standards Agency; they are warning us, try to stay away from poultry. And in this case, we are also involved because we could be eating an infected chicken.

Who is affected and how?

The chickens because they are going bye-bye one by one. We are also affected because chicken is not going to be all that safe to eat anymore and we’ll just have to turn to alternatives foods instead.

Image from: http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2005/10/13/chickens192.jpg

What would I do if I were directly involved?

I will warn everyone to be careful… maybe chicken chop (with gravy) isn’t that nice. Even though the case is still small, and not very many people have died from it, it’s spreading very quick. Soon, the disease will start to affect us of what we are eating. So hopely, it won’t happen.

How does this affect the world?

Obviously, this is still only one country who is discovering bird flu, but boy, can it spread quick. Soon, a lot of the countries will be in risk of this disease. Eventually, it will go away, but not for a long, long time.

These few weeks, we have been working on our wikis, posting on info we found about different African empires (we did Zimbabwe). Here are the reflection questions.

1. What did you learn from this task?

I learned a lot about what they used to do in ancient times inside Africa, without the use of things we use to make life easier, like the telephone. It was hard to gather infomation about zimbabwe, espeically when all of that info on the net is current. Stressful as it could be, I made it through.

2. Did you find this difficult or easy? Why?

Can I say both easy and hard? Gathering information was such a pain! Not many people write about what info we needed. Ancient stuff. People nowadays like to have very current info. Like the population of Zimbabwe was not even over a million years ago. But on the easy side, creating a wiki was piece of cake. It’s fun working with computers.

3. What would you change during the process of the wiki if you were to do this assignment again?

Not much. I think I did pretty well. I am satisfied. Maybe I should’ve looked inside more sources along the way, to find more info, but that was hard. Anyway, all the little tweaks don’t matter to me that much. The site may look a little plain. But all the info is there, that’s the main thing.
